TECHNOLOGIES

Depending on the clients requirements, RiBiT Solutions will utilise multiple technologies during the website design process.

HTML is the primary language for a static site, such as the main RiBiT Solutions web site. As HTML is the original standard of the internet, regardless of which computer, operating system or web browser your website vistors are using, they will be able to view your site.

Macromedia Flash is used to develop animated sites such as the Flash version of this site: RiBiT Solutions Flash Site. Flash sites require the website visitor to have a piece of software installed on their machine which gives their computer the ability to view the site. Although the number of computers with the necessary software already installed is now very high, clients will often request a Flash and HTML version of their site to ensure that the site is viewable by the maximum potential audience. HTML and Flash are languages primarily concerned with displaying information on the screen.

A site which is made up of individual pages of text all entered by hand and then displayed either via HTML or Flash is known as a static site. This is because the pages are 'static' and never change, unless the exiting pages are manually edited and then published to the website.

It is becoming common now for a website to have a dynamic element. With new technologies it has become possible for websites to do more than just display text pages, pictures and animations. Websites can take online bookings, display generated information and be updated without any need to alter the actual website pages.

This is possible through the use of server-side programming languages and databases. Using databases, we are able to offer our clients the ability to update their websites themselves, without any knowledge of web design technology or programming languages. This is known as a content management system, which is offered to all our clients. We provide a simple interface, similar to a word processor such as Microsoft Word, which allows our clients to edit the text of their site.
